ACEC-RI Executive Director

The American Council of Engineering Companies of Rhode Island (ACEC-RI), seeks to hire a part-time Executive Director to manage the daily operations of the organization and support the Board of Directors in establishing and achieving the organization’s strategic goals and objectives. ACEC-RI is a non-profit organization (501-c6) comprised of over fifty (50) engineering related firms located throughout the greater Rhode Island area. The organization is the state affiliate of the national American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC National), based in Washington, DC.

The Executive Director will be an enthusiastic advocate for the engineering industry and represent the private consulting industry in the public policy arena.  This role requires a dynamic relationship-builder who can cultivate and grow critical partnerships for organizational growth and advancement.  The Executive Director will report directly to the Board of Directors and work with the President and the Board to build the organization’s value to members and professional reputation to the public.

The scope of services for ACEC of Rhode Island is as follows:

BOARD SUPPORT AND ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

  • Participate in monthly Board and Executive Board meetings.

  • Participate in committees’ meetings

  • Assist with ACEC-RI breakfast/luncheon events in conjunction with the Programs committee geared toward the engineering industry and assist with securing speakers for events.

  • Assist with fundraising events in conjunction with the Government Affairs committee.

  • Work closely with the Board and President to carry out ACEC-RI’s strategic plan.

  • Attend ACEC National Conferences twice yearly.  Communicate with ACEC National and other ACEC Regional executive directors as needed to advance ACEC-RI interests.

  • Attend NAECE monthly and annual conference.

  • Advance efforts that position the organization as a thought leader on business and policy areas of interest to engineering firms.

  • Serve as a principal point of contact for communication among the membership and with government and other outside agencies.

  • Respond in a timely manner to any phone / email inquiries by the Board, President, and Membership.

 

GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS

  • Lead the government relations program, including identifying policies and regulations that adversely impact private consulting firms and formulate and implement strategies for change.

  • Develop and direct the organization’s legislative program and strengthen coalition relationships with ACEC-RI members, the RI Business Coalition, industry leaders and elected officials.

  • Serve as a registered lobbyist and be responsible for managing all aspects of organization’s advocacy efforts.

  • Track/review legislation, and lead development of policy positions and legislative/regulatory engagement efforts in conjunction with the Government Affairs committee and ACEC contracted lobbyist firm.

  • Coordinate with public agencies directly on a regular basis to address issues that affect our businesses.

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with associations/non-profit management.

  • Experience working for or interfacing with private engineering consultants as well as public contracting agencies.

  • Familiarity with the various contracting methods used by public agencies.

  • Ability to coordinate and affect changes with state and municipal elected official, department directors, and staff that affect policy and regulatory guidelines that impact the operations of ACEC-RI member organizations.

  • Thorough understanding of government and the legislative process and ability to serve as lobbyist for the organization.

  

COMPENSATION 

The Executive Director position is a part-time position, anticipated twenty (20) hour per week. The position is a contract position with a monthly salary commensurate with experience plus approved expenses. Salary range is between $70,000 to $80,000.
